BULLOCKS: Bitching About Budgets

With all the talk in Washington D.C., Indianapolis, and City Hall, about budgets, I figured I would share our household budget for a two week period for groceries, as one of the things that gets touted aimlessly about is social security welfare and food stamp benefits reduction without reserve or cause. This is just food and doesnt include somethings as it is always an on going process and shifting from one thing to another to make things stretch and operate with less than you have or need. But as with every budget process you have to start somewhere in order to figure out if you have fucked something up along the way. I prefer to start at the top and work my way down.

One thing that is not listed in the budget is our beverage consumption as it varies based on the individual another is that I try to set aside up to $40 per month for really good deals that come up over the course of the month that allow me to stock up on stuff that then gets dissipated over next several months of savings by not having to purchase stuff at normal or increased prices and or quantities because I was able to purchase for dimes on the dollar now. This doesnt happen every month but its always in the back of my brain as a consideration. It also helps that I own a deep freezer too. Anybody hit a deer lately?

I encourage everyone to put their grocery budgets out there on the web, especially FACEBOOK, as a way of telling Congress (tag your member of Congress) and your State Legislature and City/County Council and pundits to get real about debates and budgets and have an honest conversation about where our dollars are spent, and quit trying to use or malign those whom barely have enough to survive on a monthly basis or receive benefits, because as I can attest below, it doesn't go to waste.

Hello and again thank you for taking the time to read F6 Queer Views Of Life Along Our Three Rivers even while it has been inactive for the last year and a half. I truly do miss contributing within this forum and getting to meet all of you across the electronic superhighway and side roads that we all slide down from time to time. I thank you for traveling down my dirt road from time to time. With all the changes that have occurred over the last eighteen months there have been and still are numerous times where I have wanted to return and share those stories and my commentary and illustrate the beauty of the male body and bond of brotherly love in the midst of all the chaos, if only to bring even for just a moment my unique perspective and order to the disillusion many feel on a daily basis.

There were other reasons that facilitated me taking a break, it was also right when GOOGLE was cracking down unjustly on questionable (at best mature, but not porn) gay content specifically, on blogger/blogspot. From a personal perspective, I took a break after my fathers passing and my health taking a turn for the worse temporarily. I waited for a year to decide whether or not to come back to it or clean it up a bit and turn it into a resource page while still keeping the historical record in tact. When that year happened to pass I was recovering from two major surgeries within a three month time frame and dealing with life issues and roommate issues and such. So as that deadline passed in October 2010, I just let it sit still and serve for the historical record and what little up to date resources there still were.

I hope that helps explain some of it. I am putting together a compendium of my writings and updating them to current sources and will probably have that published either this year or next. Sorry for being so morbid, but as it stands now, I dont foresee my being able to publish F6 any further on a regular basis. While there will be a few posts as I update and finish telling stories begun on here many moons ago, as much as I miss it and as much as I miss each of you, I must preserve what is already here so that we never forget and then make it the best resource possible for the future generation to see and remember the struggle and sacrifice for equality.

It is with great sorrow that I write this morning.

The News Sentinel has confirmed reports that Most Reverend Father Earl Paul Brian Carsten, Metropolitan Archbishop of the Orthodox-Catholic Church in America has crossed into eternal pastures this past Friday at the age of 65 due to a childhood defect of his heart that had recently surfaced and caused the stroke which caused him to fall into a coma and pass from his mortal flesh with friends and colleagues surrounding him in prayer and praise to GOD our almighty Father, ABBA!. Archbishop Carsten is survived by his mother, Isabelle, of Auburn.

Funeral Services and Divine Liturgy of Commendation (aka Mass of Christian Burial) will be celebrated by Archbishop Alfred L. Lankenau on Friday the 3rd of April at 4P with calling from 1-4P. The Divine Liturgy and Commendation will be hosted with graciousness at Fairview Missionary Church 525 East 200 North in (MAP) Angola, Indiana.

DIRECTIONS: You may arrive at Fairview Missionary Church via Interstate 69 by taking the Crooked Lake interchange number 150 @ County Road 200 West turning left if from Fort Wayne or right if from Michigan and proceed (north) approximately a half mile, turning right (or East) onto West County Road 200 North and then proceed 2.5 miles down the road and the Church will be on your right hand side. If you intersect with State Road 827 North you are sitting right next to it. Please look behind you before you back into somebody when trying to turn around.

There is more sorrow in this untimely loss of Fr. Skip's boisterous at times but contemplative presence, which was compounded by the horrendously inaccurate article written by Aaron Organ and published in the News Sentinel, that both defamed the character of this humble Servant Shepherd and the Orthodox-Catholic Church in America [website], which he guided for the last nine years with great respect and responsible stewardship.

I can only reflect the albeit massive loss and tears shed that the members of the three congregation local Community of the Cross and my fellow clergy and friends in the OCCA are feeling at this moment in their 100 year plus history. This is also a time of joy and peace knowing that it will be alright and that he can do a lot more from where he is now. What The Fuck Is That All About! & What Is Really In Our 3 Rivers?

So I have been extremely busy for the last couple of days which is why Saturdays two post are being published late and I do apologize for that. As I slowly catch up with Saturdays intended post there will be two to follow this one. Thank you all for reading.

The life of a semi retired pastor and active community organizer is never dull. Even though I look better than Biden or Obama without lipstick, no, that was not a quip towards them or Palin, but the local idiotic bloggers bitching back and forth at each other like teenagers, because you didn't ask their best friend out on a date or something ... whatever ... such dorks!

I want to take a moment and give a great shout out to all those whom dropped their pants and put on shorts and swim trunks and braved the contaminated Combined Sewer Overflow waters of the St. Mary's River by participating in Save Maumee's Canoe River Clean Up today and all the companies and organizations who contributed resources to the efforts of improving our waterways and environmental damage by the ton of debris pulled from our river.

Thanks also to Council Member Mitch Harper for having Abigail Frost, the Founder of SMGO, on his live City Council Public Access show last week.

Finding more Things To Do In Fort Wayne lead me to my new dream car...

So yesterday, I was looking around at other blogs to see what was going on Around Fort Wayne when I found this story regarding the Model T Bike Tours @ Head Waters Park. My curiosity was peaked not because of the entrepreneurial spirit behind such an endeavour but the personal benefits of the images of their vehicle.

However, after reading some of the crap they have gone through to continue operations, it is F6's honour to applaud them for keeping an privately owned attraction available, and at minimum cost to consumers, in a public venue. That they have continued to overcome every obstacle put in front of them is something that should be celebrated publicly. Tour prices and packages vary but run from the beginning of June through Halloween.

So what peaked my interest? Could it be true! That after twelve years, I have found an answer to being able to ride a bike again, due to my over sized scrotum. Then I went looking around their website and could not find a product (bike) name or supplier/trader. I went with the limited information I could find and caressed Google's algorithms with my FiOS and came up with yet another awesome find, ... my new dream car!!

The Chinese Rickshaw (picture to right) is a one cylinder, four stroke, five gear, Cargo and Passenger Tricycle. Zipping around at over thirty seven miles per hour, it can carry a load of up to one thousand one hundred and two pounds (four adults, plus cargo) This Tricycle's tank holds only twelve liters of fuel (just over three gallons); but at approximately sixty seven miles per gallon, you will be spending less time at the pump and more time on the road.

There are also electrically powered options for the more environmentally conscious consumer.

Now if I can just find a supplier that will ask me to promote without cost on this City's streets?

This is going to be interesting & Things to do in Fort Wayne

Well starting out, today was suppose to be a lazy day; originally I had four posts planned for today: two updates on national GLBTIQAS (Gay and Lesbian etc.) issues, and this one, followed by a general commentary post. That was at half past ten, in the morning; it is now eleven fifteen at night! I have three posts still sitting in draft mode, and I am just now sitting down to type this one; it has been a long, hard, day. Folks, that is what makes life in Fort Wayne great. Short of F6 sounding like a montage of slogans, Fort Wayne really does provide "room for dreams".

Being able to help certain people in query secure their dreams for the future and resolve the nightmares of the past bad choices and decisions by others, makes my vocation while limited in recompense or reward, satisfying and worth every moment of personal sacrifice of a few lazy moments of writing and much needed rest. Additionally, any time I start to question or fret over whether or not to continue my ministry here in any capacity or just pack up and move to Wyoming (get it, " WHY? OH ME!", sorry - bad pun), God always seems to send me into situations that no one else is either willing to deal with or knows how to. That is kind of cool and it is also nice to know that I am right where He wants me to be.

There are several major events coming up as well as new additions or offerings from long standing community organizations and you can get a quick picture by viewing F6's Links Page and scroll to the bottom for our Google Calendar. The following are just three that I would like to highlight and also correct previous misinformation posted on this forum, if you don't mind.

About a month and a half ago, I received an unverified email regarding ARCH's Downtown Treasures Tours that happen April through October at 1p.m. on the first Friday of the month starting @ The Convention and Visitors Bureau on Calhoun Street and runs a course across the south end of Downtown's historic attractions.

I put it up on the calendar, with a private note to review it later. A couple days ago, I finally spoke with Angie Quinn, who leads the tours and also writes @ Revolutionary Potluck League, randomly. I was able to verify with her some details and clarify certain others. During our conversation she also filled me in about a new set of tours that will happen on Saturdays from the 7th of June through 27th of September and start at ten in the morning leaving from the Barr Street Market and run north and again west covering those attractions.

Each tour takes approximately ninety minutes and covers one mile of travel. The Downtown Treasures Tours are free; although ARCH does ask that you call ahead to notify them how many people will be attending, so they have enough guides to lead you around our historic and yet modern City.
UPDATE: TOURS ARE NOW $5 FOR ADULTS!

Katie @ Fort Wayne Yoga sent me a message, clarifying that while Dodge Ball @ Foster Park starts at 5 p.m. on Sundays apparently the Yoga class doesn't start until 6:30 p.m. For more information, follow the links in the previous sentence, and again my apologies for the misinformation.

One of the strongest assets and institutions in Fort Wayne is it's art community. Please take time to check out Allen County Public Library's Fort Wayne Area Artists blog. With the hundreds of working and innovative artists, Fort Wayne is the hometown choice of several nationally and internationally recognized artists.

Comcast in conjunction with Arts United and several other companies are presenting THE ART CRAWL FESTIVAL on Friday the 30th of May from 5-9 p.m. It all starts off @ the intersection of Wayne and Calhoun and stretches all the way east and west from Harrison to Clinton Streets and south to Washington Boulevard. The event is free to browse and by purchasing the works, you can support our local artists and help them flourish in their craft. In addition, with all the great local art and age appropriate venues, the Downtown Improvement District has other features for this festival listed on their website; so I will refer any further event promotions to that page.

Year In Review: Personally Politically Yours

The Libertarian Party of Allen County

This year we saw the Party locally come out from relative inconspicuousness to challenge heartily eight of nine City Council seats and throw the mainstream political parties on their rears while crying foul. While we didn't come out victorious in any race we definitely established a presence in County and City politics and have made everyone even the Editorial Board of the Journal Gazette stand up, take account, and eat their own words several times over. On an organizational front, 2007 also saw the restart of the Campus Libertarians @ IPFW under the leadership of Kody Tinnel. And we received front page coverage on two issues of Frost Illustrated right before the general election and in the early summer with an awesome cover and article in the Fort Wayne Reader.

You can review some of the stories in F6's archive and other blogs in the area but when all is said and now done it comes to one quote from outgoing Second District Council Member Donald Schmidt (R) in an exit interview with Jeff Nuemeyer from the Indiana News Center:

"There were several things that were working against us, uh, it was a bad year for Republicans at the national level, obviously. Secondly, the Mayoral situation was working against us. The smoking issue had riled a lot of people up, that was out there,and the Libertarian Party was coming after us."

Donald was a nine term incumbent who was upset not just by twelve votes to Redevelopment Commissioner Karen Goldner (D) but with a newcomer relocated from Ohio, Libertarian Jonathan Bartels (pic-far left), whom took six percent of the vote in that race also. Other races which saw impressive leads by Libertarians were in the First with Byron Peters grabbing ten percent and father of three, Robert Fuller (pic-cntr right), pulling eight percent in the Fifth, and two of our At Large candidates Douglas Horner (pic-cntr left) and William Larsen pulled over four thousand votes each.

Tomorrow starts a new life for the City as a whole since we have a new mayor and had a shift in City Council with five of nine seats being filled by newcomers. I wish them the best and ask them for one favor, fix the problems caused by the previous administrations and overzealous Council members please. The second smoking ban being on the top of the list followed by Combined Sewer Overflows, public safety pensions, and bad policies - like tax abatements for fast food restaurants. 2008 is going to be an awesome year with local school boards and county government, and general assembly positions all coming up for a vote. We also might finally see the demise of Mark "dont keep my promises" Souder from Congress. One only wonders if Dan Turkette @ Fort Wayne News was successful in his propositioning of Matt Kelty to run for Souder's seat also, it will be interesting to watch.

UPDATES FROM F6

F6 got national attention for my review of Buddy G My Two Moms And Me earlier this month. The comments left by one of the two co-creators of this d2v series was heartily appreciated and I wanted to take a moment and say thank you to Donna personally for her comments and cross linking. Back in November, F6 introduced readers to a new web 2.0 community and telecast called QUARTERLIFE. A storyline about mid twenty somethings just trying to figure out their difference in the world as they know it. The show airs new ten minute segments every Sunday and Thursday on their website and myspace pages. I am pleased to announce that NBC has picked up the series and will air the show with six initial hour long episodes from the late winter to early spring of 2008.

FAQs From Fr. Fozy

There has been not much new on the home front I go in for my three month review with my doctors shortly after the New Year and we will see from there as to how my kidneys and heart are doing. On a last note, I received for my birthday and Christmas a really cool crocheted beaded necklace and crocheted prayer beads from my brother Curt, the necklace has been adapted slightly to accept my pectoral cross, as was his intent. It is a little itchy, but it is cool non the less, it almost gives off the appearance of braided hemp.

My creatine levels (what is checked for proper kidney function) have dropped from 3.7 to 3.1, which means my kidney function is improving! Now the main thing that I have to focus on for the next four months is to get back down to my correct (pre-heart failures) weight, which is going to be a bitch and a half - but a blessing beyond compare, that it is the only thing I have to worry about for the next four months. Thank you everyone for your prayers and positive thoughts.

One score and twelve years ago....What an adventure it has been!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY OLD BEAR

Thirty two years ago this morning I was shoved out of my mother's womb three months and a day early. I was a two pound, nine ounce bundle of flesh that was seventeen inches long. I couldn't figure out what God was thinking when He came down and commissioned me from my mothers womb and then said "Now get out into the world." instead of letting me stay in this nice warm sack of fluid for another ninety three days. This is my five minutes of paying tribute annually to my mother and father.

Since I am my mother's first born she sucked down on the anesthetics and ended up passing out half way through delivery. My father, in regards to the minor miracle in front of him, responding to the intensive neo-natal conflicts of my premature birth did two things that have the highest honor in my life. They will forever reign in my life no matter what happens or what people say about me personally and professionally. Thirty minutes after I was born I was baptized and given my father's name, the highest glory he could give me, and then handing me back over to God in prayer and the doctors for health and safety. My mom woke up three days later.

ABORTION AND THE SOLEMN FEAST OF HOLY INNOCENTS AND MARTYRS

Today is the feast of the Holy Innocents (citations from my homily: Jeremiah 31:15, Matthew 2:16-18, Assumption of Moses 6:2-6) within the Octave of the Incarnation (Catholics take 8 days to celebrate Christmas Day and Easter Day, similar to Chanukah) . Therefore the issues of premature termination of any life has a very special place in my own history. I am for life from conception to natural death. Technically I was born at the very end of my second trimester. And yes if you do the math I was suppose to born on April Fools Day. Evil is not the opposite of Good it is any thing that takes away from our lives and living them for good will towards our fellow members of creation.

I am not going to make this too political; however I must address this, especially on my birth feast. I am against abortion however I am also pro choice, only in one regard. That is, the fact that if abortion were not legal, I as a member of the clergy, would be celebrating double the amount of funerals (both mother and child). I do believe though that abortion needs to be pulled out of the private clinics and needs to be a ethically guided and medically sound procedure. That just is not guaranteed in a private clinic setting. By requiring continued after procedure medical care and ethical guidance we can greater limit the ramifications of a termination on both the body and mind and soul of the individual whom has made the most tragic decision of their and someone else's life and the biological father's honor. We need to restore the father's right of choice in the decision as well. He contributed half of the byproducts (23 chromosomes and 30 minutes of hard labor) to form this new life, he should have some say in its future, 'possession should not be nine tenths of the law'.

ADMINISTRATION OF THE BLOG

If you take time to notice by actually viewing my blog directly (not through an RSS feed, or whatever else people use to scan this from a distance) I found out (totally on accident mind you) how to put certain things over on the main column above and below the blog entries. I hope you like some of these changes just remember to scroll down a little bit off of the main page to view everything. It is not quite done and completely updated or shuffled from one category to another but I will be finishing it up over the weekend.

Why did the sidebar link categories change?

This was done in an effort to clarify better what people are looking for. Before all the personal, political and news, commentary blogs were for the most part in one of two groups of link lists "what all d fagz r talkn bout!" and "3 rivers blogged down". One of the major complaints I received is people were getting dizzy trying to figure out which blogs they wanted to view because they couldn't always tell what type of blog it was. The new blog link list have new titles and a description underneath to better explain each category. Certain blogs have been reassigned to other categories completely that more appropriately align to the content of the blog. For instance Scott and Brian's or Blake's blogs are completely related to local sports and therefore are under all the links to "support 3 rivers athletics" while Undies Drawer has been placed under "don we now our gay apparel" I hope that these changes will help people use the resources that I am trying to provide to our greater local and queer community members.

The Fort Wayne blogs have been broken down into three main categories:

What are some of the other things that you have toyed with on F6?

One is adding a third colour to the blog for subtitles and emphasis in actual posts, but the jury is still out on that one. Trying to find colours that coordinate well with the existing scheme is a bitch and a half sice I am working with two opposites initially. The background has been grayed out a little bit so as to give the appearance of recycled paper.

The three quotes and the Jay Brannan video player have been moved to the main column of the profile for people to have an easier time viewing them or picking which video to watch.

Tracking oneself across the blogosphere or letting your readers see where you've been.

In addition, I have added as a new idea in response to "New Media New Rules" and the "Civility Code" from a few months back is a link list entitled "what I did say!" which is a list of the fifteen latest comments of mine on other people's and/or organization's blogs. This is an effort to challenge especially the local authors and everyone to be more accountable for their activity across the blogosphere as well. One last benefit to this decision is that now when I leave a comment I can go back and check directly on a response from others or the author/editor of the original blog.

The links to my comments on other's blogs are listed in the following format:
1. international date (yyyymmdd)
2. the first two initials of the origional blog's authors name (Eric White=EW:)
3. followed by the acronym for the origional blog (Kody's blog is KT:TV for Tinnel Vision)

The only slight downside to this link list of my comments elsewhere is everyone else can read them as well. Sometimes people don't realize they are dealing with two different persona's when reviewing the crassness of my blog (and the historical series that was F6's original old media venue) versus my personal or pastoral commentary on other blogs and sites. I challenge everyone to take time to think about the possibilities and provisions for improving your surrounding community and the communication between neighbors. Whether friends or enemies, specify or at least declare your biases and predispositions when writing; remember also, facial features aren't usually illustrated well in written commentary.

CLARIFICATION AND APOLOGY

And that leads me to my clarification and apology then the closing of this post. In my review and follow up of the New Media New Rules forum held on the twentieth of this month, I referred to Rachel Blakeman and Nathan Gotsch in what some would assume is a demeaning manner.

What you are not all aware of is my internal mental animation. I have a cartoon that plays in the back of my head (hence my warped humor or views on certain things) and I see people and events in cartoon format as well as how they appear in reality. This skill comes from teaching preschool for several years. There are only so many ways to illustrate "pigs flying off a cliff" to three, four, and five year olds.

The first time I met Rachel was after the general election this year at the Thirsty Camel. She came in, sat down in a slump, and strained her neck veins to raise her head after a very hard fought election cycle; therefore my mind recorded an image of her in both reality and in animation format and it stuck, hence the mule reference. My apologies for not having clarified the terms of endearment. Now that I have somewhat explained the process with Rachel let me just say that certain actions or illustrations done by Nathan reminded me of a combination of a kangaroo and a jackrabbit (picture provided) with a cute little cotton tail bouncing into the vegetable garden and tearing it all to shreds. General Community Update

Some of the new categories for this blog's link list and resource guide are not complete quite yet but I figured since the revamp of the blog is some what on target I would introduce a few of the categories with news and curiosities that I have found while traversing across the electronic super highway.

Category Two: But There Are Things To Do In Fort Wayne

IPFW "Fall-Into-Finals" Party and Drinking Convention announced.

With an IPFW student I.D. and $6, you can apparently drink yourself stupid tomorrow (the 30th) at the Quality Hotel (3330 W. Coliseum Blvd., Fort Wayne) while being hopefully entertained by The Freezing Scene as well as The North River Agents. One IPFW I.D. admits two people. It's apparently all-ages, so I guess that means fake I.D.'s are welcome and encouraged. It starts at 9pm but the bands wont start playing until like ten or eleven.

One more proof that yes in fact there are things to do in Fort Wayne but only if you have money, a car, and are enrolled at IPFW. I have no issue with drinking but this has got to change. Next is a beginning example of how easily the Cultural Studies Credit Program could work.

The Fort Wayne Youth Theatre announced that The Best Christmas Pageant Ever will be presented on Saturday December 15 and Sunday December 16 at 2:00 p.m. on stage at the Arts United Center at 303 E. Main St. in Fort Wayne.

To make reservations you can call the box office at 422-4226 beginning Monday, December 10 between 12:00-4:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.00 adults and $8.00 children. If you'd like to see the show for free you can let the Director, Reuben, know if you are available on December 10 from 10:00-5:00 to help hang set pieces and lights for the show. If you work for 2 hours, you can get a comp ticket to see the show...

... and trust me he will need some help!

I figure that is enough rambling for now but just to let y'all know I will be going on my annual Advent retreat on Saturday up at the Chapel and Skete @ Crosswood Centre (Skete= Russian Orthodox term for Monastery) in Auburn, Indiana. It will be fun to reconnect and have fellowship with my friends whom are clergy of the Orthodox-Catholic Church of America and the lay members of the local communities they serve. Every time I go up to Crosswood Centre I am refreshed for another long haul with in my pastoral duties and personal life.

[UPDATE: Much as the story of my life normally tells, I was called away early this morning on an pastoral issue and could not attend the retreat today. Thank yous go out to those who prayed for me! Fortunately I have the opportunity to go on another retreat shortly after the Christmas season in mid January, probably on one of my patron feast day.]

One last note you will find that certain religious links have been pulled off this blog. All religion and spirituality links with the exception of mine and organizations directly affiliated with me are on Our Lady Rejoice Ministries third edition of The Reign And Rook, which is now in blog format and will debut in limited form this Sunday.
