Yeah I Am Gay But It Is Just As Important That I Am! & GLAAD Announces Nominees in 43 Categories for 20th Annual Awards Shows!

The Rainbow Malitia on You Tube has struck again with another collaboration video celebrating who Queers are and are not but more importantly addressing the fact that we are just human. Take a look for yourself:



GLAAD, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, has announced its nominees for their 20th Annual Media Awards, which is presented by IBM with Absolut Vodka and Prudential Insurance & Investment Co. along with 10 underwriters and 28 patronages by different corporations, in three tour locations: New York on the 28th of March; Los Angeles on the 18th of April; and San Francisco on the 9th of May. Some of these Awards in 43 different categories (26 English; 17 Spanish) will be handed out at each of the three events, others will be given an honorable salute in the program for the night.

My only query is that, If GLAAD is already hosting three events and two are on either coast, why can't the third or a fourth one be held in the middle of America? This is where the defamation and discrimination that your organization is petitioning against is going on more rampantly and silently.

It seems minor hypocritical, in my opinion, that you would not want to reach out to us "common queer folk" and let us "take in a bit of celebrity and style" or better yet come see the lives of the people your Award Nominees portray, and your organization defends. Plus it would be a perfect opportunity for us to show you big city types a bit of country queer hospitality. I'm just asserting that it is something GLAAD should think about doing so in the future. Who knows by spreading it truly across the Country, you might actually be able to present all 43 categories in the future, because our venues don't cost as much to rent by the hour and you don't have to valet!

I don't know which has worse form and suffers lack of presentation, FAUX NEWS on a usual basis, or the fact that NOT MORE THAN A DAY HAS PASSED since GLAAD announced its nominees for their 20th Annual Media Award, and the President of GLAAD announced his resignation?

I have informed the national board of directors of my decision to step down as president later this year and look forward to a successful and smooth transition of leadership for GLAAD. It's been an honor and privilege to work professionally in the movement for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality for the last three and a half years. The views of the American people on LGBT issues are clearly moving in the right direction, toward supporting full equality, and it has been a great experience to serve on the front lines, leading an amazing organization at such a historical time in the movement.

I am probably the only one whom smells a rat in the chicken coop. First GLAAD does a "controlled power grab" of Commercial Closet, which forced the cancellation of their last Awards Show, and now we are asked to not think or see this as a duck and cover move or a power grab? That it isn't just bad form just piss poor timing! Is there a worse way to say, "have confidence in this organization" then by having your President resign the day after a major events announcement? Steve Weinstein, Editor-in-Chief of The Edge of New England has more about this story here:

Neil Giuliano, the president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), is resigning "to pursue personal interests while completing his forthcoming book about his public and political life," according to a release from the advocacy organization. Giuliano, president since September 2005, will continue until a date to be announced later this year. Prior to GLAAD, he served for ten years as the mayor of Tempe, Ariz., after 25 years at Arizona State University.

"It’s been an honor and privilege to work professionally in the movement for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality," Giuliano said in a statement. "The views of the American people on LGBT issues are clearly moving in the right direction, toward supporting full equality, and it has been a great experience to serve on the front lines." Under Giuliano’s leadership, GLAAD’s budget has grown from $7.5M to $11M. GLAAD’s mission is a national voice against defamation of gay people and media outreach programs. GLAAD also acquired Queer Lounge at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007 and will launch an advertising media program later in 2009 with the assets of the former Commercial Closet Association, which merged with GLAAD.

"He will leave GLAAD a better and more effective organization than when he arrived and we appreciate his years of dedication and service," said Yvette Burton, co-chair of GLAAD’s Board of Directors. The board is searching for a replacement.

One side note, Jay Brannan is a nominee in the Out Standing Music Artist category for Goddamned!, yeah!

In less than an hour I am having my wisdom teeth extracted

So here is something to tide you over until I recover. The Shelter, directed by Jonah Markowitz starring Brad Rowe, Trevor Wright, and Tina Holmes, was released by Here Networks, in 2007, is an awesome gay flick! Take 90 minutes out of your day or night and seek out The Shelter and what new queer cinema is all about. When you get a chance I would recommend adding this to your collection soon. UPDATE: So Doc only pulled the one tooth up from up front (from my carjacking 5 years ago), apparently it turned out after he pulled (using the term lightly) the tooth, I didn't in fact need to loose my wisdom teeth. So I am not in as much pain as I thought I would be... thank God! Although now instead of just being a ghetto redneck I look like a hillbilly with my missing front tooth. You win some you definitely loose some too. I probably shouldn't be making this blog post update, since I am still under the influence of perscription narcotics and a lack of nicotine; but here goes everything, balls to the wall. Jay Brannan: Goddammed and Holding Trevor premiere this week

Two days ago Jay Brannan's new album GODDAMNED came out for worldwide distribution on iTunes and a hard copy will be available when he begins his tour around the 15th of this month. Here is what Jay wrote to fans on MySpace and everywhere else too:

Well this is it, Release day! The big moment that...I've....been waiting for. My first full album is available on iTunes NOW!!! Yes, that means worldwide. There are 6 tracks from the album on my myspace page for your listening pleasure, and here's a long video of me talking and playing an all-new song from the album. In other news about Jay, a couple years back, after SHORTBUS (which has been the source of a huge debate locally) ended production Jay Brannan (as Jake) and his best friend Brent Gorski (Trevor) got together and created with the help of Co-Producer Rosser Goodman and the beautiful Mellisa Searing (Andie), hottie Eli Kranski (Ephram), and farm boi Christopher Wyllie (as Darrell) round out the cast in this indie film HOLDING TREVOR which debuts in certain venues on Independence Day.

Everybody’s looking for something and Trevor Holden (Brent) is desperately looking for himself in all the wrong places (yet still seems to come up short) …or maybe he is just looking in all the wrong people. It’s pretty safe to say that he won’t find enlightenment in his strung-out boyfriend Darrell, as his oldest friend, Trevor feels a responsibility to help Darrell in his latest attempt at sobriety much to the dismay of his own best friends Jake and Andie.

Although after just witnessing his boyfriend Darrell overdose on heroin, Trevor is finally ready to call it quits. And just when he does, he meets the ever so charming and handsome Ephram. Despite the well-meaning advice offered by his sexually pervasive best friend and his self-righteous roommate Andie, simply being everything that Darrell is not wins Ephram a number of points up-front. As Trevor’s relationship with Ephram quickly progresses, it starts to put a strain on his friendships with Jake and Andie.

As the story progresses Jake (Jay), the self-proclaimed sex-addict, is starting to worry a little bit about his past catching up with him, namely in the form of HIV. And Andie, who drunkenly ends her sexual dry spell with a one-night stand, realizes that Jake might have less to worry about than she does. Meanwhile, Ephram accepts a job thousands of miles away in New York City, and he wants Trevor to go with him. Now, what started out as Trevor’s own personal existential journey, turns into a path that will lead everyone to what is most important: themselves and each other.



Holding Trevor is continually poignant, relentlessly self-deprecating, and just the type of cerebral dark comedy that can speak directly to the twenty-somethings of today while letting other generations in on the joke.

FAG FAQS Who knew they made a movie with the same name?

So I was randomly searching WATCH-MOVIES.NET for something to do and to kill time and came across an awesome recent release JUMPER. A genetic anomaly allows a young man, David Rice, to teleport himself anywhere. He discovers this gift has existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between "Jumpers" and those who have sworn to kill them, a secret generational society known as Paladins [IMDB]. In my opinion they should make JUMPER a regular series without hesitation. It was fucking phenomenal! Plus, Hayden Christensen is an absolute Hottie! By the way, no worries about gay sex, it is a science fiction chick flick. Is that even possible?

So after watching that movie just for kicks I figured I would see what gay themed movies they had... a good variety if I don't say so myself, small but good. As I was perusing their list I came across this Indie Film, for lack of a better phrase, written and directed by Everett Lewis, that uniquely perked my interest via the name of this blog forum.

FAG FAQS is a story about "India (played by Joe Lia) who after living on the tough streets of LA for a while, India hopes that every gay basher will meet his destiny. In this case Destiny is a black, 6 foot, high heel wearing, gun toting, drag queen with an attitude and a soft place in her heart for homeless gay boys."

Knowing that I have only watched half of FAG FAQS (click link or picture on side to watch movie using the second version), as I paused to write this post for Saturday. (on time, yeah!) I will warn you that there are sex scenes in the movie but they don't show the actual sex act, just everything before and after, so far. This is a really good movie and in one way vindicates the hustle of queer life but also exposes the hurt and anguish experienced by gay youth and young adults today at the hands of ignorance or bigotry whether it is social or religious or so familiar to us from our parents, siblings, and relatives.

I am one of the lucky ones, my parents support and love me no matter what I do. They trust me. There are many of my kids who never get the opportunity to have a Father say they love them or are proud of them or who they are becoming. If you take anything away from either of these films let it be the need for unconditional love of our children no matter whom they choose to love or whatever their destiny might be.

At the very beginning of the movie there is a quote from the 2004 Republican Party Platform which makes our fight even more legitimized and illustrated. The deep seated discrimination against love of another person very relevant still. If I can find the exact quotes somewhere, I will post them later. They are that important to read over and again until we realize how deep seated this double standard second class status for queers really is in their eyes, and then challenge the Republican Party to the core of its feigned existence!

This movie is not for the faint of heart but it is one for the record books. For all the gay boys who bitch about drag queens being improper spokespersons for the community or transgendereds being a part of our community this movie will challenge you as well. This Lincoln Libertarian is going to shout it from the roof tops and the belfries. Watch out religious and political hatemongers, Mamma Kahlua, my inner baptist black woman, is out, on the rag, and her pumps are loaded!
