Keep The Promise theme for World AIDS Day this year
December 1st commemorates the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day, a day in which everyone at risk for contracting AIDS or knows someone at risk takes time to remember those lost to the disease, living with HIV or AIDS, and pushing for a cure, and maintain the fight so that future generations will not be affected by HIV/AIDS.
Fort Wayne will be honoring World AIDS Day with a keynote address by Rev. BUST A MOVE FOR BREAST CANCER TOMORROW
Bust A Move for Breast Cancer, which will raise funds for Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana. Join us on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 6pm at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art for food, live music by Marnee, readings from Cancer survivors and a silent and live auction. What are we auctioning? For “Bust a Move,” local artists and women have volunteered their talents and their bodies to create unique, inspiring cast representations of the female bust and the emotions associated with breast cancer. You can view a sneak peak here, but you have to come to the event to see them all. Check out our event website for more details and read statements by cancer survivors and artists who participated in this project.

Supporting Three Rivers Athletics: Midsummer, part 2
Did you all break out the chamomile tea and eat fried sunflowers to get through the rain storm this morning? For those whom have no idea as to what I am talking about, today is the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year; the day the sun stands still, per say. Christians remember the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist, Prophet and Martyr and Pagans celebrate Litha, those with a more literary panache will know this day by Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream. Remember to enjoy the strength of the Divine Light within each other today and always.
Do you want to be a Fort Wayne Derby Girl?
Are you a dedicated business-minded woman able to help with the day to day administration of the business? Are you a tough woman looking to strap on some skates and get rough? Here is your chance. Fort Wayne Derby Girls are holding mid season tryouts to recruit fresh talent for next season on Tuesday the 24th of June from 6-8p.m. @ The PLEX on California Road north of Coliseum and east of Parnell Avenue. You need to bring a helmet and skates if you have them, rentals will be available for those whom don't; all other padding is optional for tryouts. Contact KonaKrusher@fwderbygirls.com for more info.
In Fort Wayne women play full contact football too!
In other Woman's professional sports news the Fort Wayne Flash completed their playoff season today in a contest against the Cleveland Fusion in a highly anticipated away game. No results are available yet, which is why this post was delayed as well. In other news regarding our National Womens Football Association team, Ben Smith @ the Journal Gazette did a good opinion-feature during their Fathers Day game against the Indianapolis Chaos.
Mentioning Cleveland and Football aka Soccer!
The Fort Wayne Fever's Mens Team lost against the Internationals, 2-1, whom they will play again in an away game on the 3rd of July. This evening they were playing Toronto Lynx @ The Fort Wayne Sport Club fields. The Mens Fever next home game is the Wednesday 9th of July vs. Michigan Bucks.
The Fort Wayne Fever's Womens Team has three home games coming up: Tuesday 24th 7p, vs. FC Indiana Lionesses;
Friday 27th 7p, vs. Michigan Hawks; and Sunday 29th 4p, vs. Kalamazoo Outrage.
Games are @ Hefner Stadium near The PLEX unless stated otherwise. Tickets are $6 at the gate per person per game, with season passes per person $30 and Family passes $75 Children 3 and under are free. To tryout for the Fort Wayne Fever Mens or Womens Teams call Coach Nick Potter @ 260-496-9999 ext. 25 or by email: nickp@plexsports.com, (note: tryouts are in March). For more information about the Fever visit their website.
In local politics and minor league baseball shenanigans
The Fort Wayne Wizards have garnered some flak for wanting to change their name when they move to the new Downtown Stadium next season (If it is built on time?) Citizens can go to the Harrison Square website and enter their suggestions for a new team name. Although one word of caution, according to certain reports across the local blogoshpere, the recommendation must include the letters "IN" for Indiana, supposedly.
Some of the recommendations reported so far that I like personally are:
Maumee Valley Mosquitos, (it is kind of cute); The Runaways, (historical reference to Josiah Harmar who ran away during the Battle of Kekionga in October 1790); The Summit City Sandbaggers, (which is referring to the Flood of 1982 where Fort Wayne earned the moniker "The City That Saved Its Self" and a fly in by then President Ronald Regan (who now has the interstate around Fort Wayne named after him) on Air Force One to access the damage and revitalization by the citizens afterward).
F6 is all for historical significance! We could always pay homage to Chief Little Turtle or one of the other foriegn nationals who governed this geographical area before it became a military installation and City named after an insane and abusive General in the United States Continental Army.
In my honest opinion, it is time to rename the Wizards!
EDITOR'S NOTES:
This post is a continuation of Support 3 Rivers Athletics: Spring into Summer, part 1 which is part of the continuing editorial service of F6 in promoting a healthy life choices in all gay bois and gyrlz. Through showing our support of the local amateur and professional sports and athletic associations F6 intends to prove it is possible to concentrate on more than just tight ends, wide receivers, pitchers and catchers, etc. Although it is nice to know that we can do more than think about swinging your nine inch piece of wood around in our hands.

General Community Update
Some of the new categories for this blog's link list and resource guide are not complete quite yet but I figured since the revamp of the blog is some what on target I would introduce a few of the categories with news and curiosities that I have found while traversing across the electronic super highway.
Category one: Support 3 Rivers Athletics
If any body has any of this information please forward it to me via comments here, please. (illustration picture under category still in debate, primary links: college/ professional/ semiprofessional are done, need to follow up with community sports organizations now,
need to follow up with high school athletics next,)
Befriend the Fort Wayne Derby Jeerleaders
Our jeerleader squad wants to be your friend! Send them a friend request at www.myspace.com/fwdgjeerleaders And don't forget, not only are we holding try outs for interested skaters on Jan. 7 and 9, we are also looking for dedicated individuals to volunteer, ref or join our jeerleader squad.
Category Two: But There Are Things To Do In Fort Wayne
(Category not posted on side bar will be a reoccurring theme)
IPFW "Fall-Into-Finals" Party and Drinking Convention announced.
With an IPFW student I.D. and $6, you can apparently drink yourself stupid tomorrow (the 30th) at the Quality Hotel (3330 W. Coliseum Blvd., Fort Wayne) while being hopefully entertained by The Freezing Scene as well as The North River Agents. One IPFW I.D. admits two people. It's apparently all-ages, so I guess that means fake I.D.'s are welcome and encouraged. It starts at 9pm but the bands wont start playing until like ten or eleven.
One more proof that yes in fact there are things to do in Fort Wayne but only if you have money, a car, and are enrolled at IPFW. I have no issue with drinking but this has got to change. Next is a beginning example of how easily the Cultural Studies Credit Program could work.
The Fort Wayne Youth Theatre announced that The Best Christmas Pageant Ever will be presented on Saturday December 15 and Sunday December 16 at 2:00 p.m. on stage at the Arts United Center at 303 E. Main St. in Fort Wayne.
To make reservations you can call the box office at 422-4226 beginning Monday, December 10 between 12:00-4:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.00 adults and $8.00 children. If you'd like to see the show for free you can let the Director, Reuben, know if you are available on December 10 from 10:00-5:00 to help hang set pieces and lights for the show. If you work for 2 hours, you can get a comp ticket to see the show...
... and trust me he will need some help!
I figure that is enough rambling for now but just to let y'all know I will be going on my annual Advent retreat on Saturday up at the Chapel and Skete @ Crosswood Centre (Skete= Russian Orthodox term for Monastery) in Auburn, Indiana. It will be fun to reconnect and have fellowship with my friends whom are clergy of the Orthodox-Catholic Church of America and the lay members of the local communities they serve. Every time I go up to Crosswood Centre I am refreshed for another long haul with in my pastoral duties and personal life.
[UPDATE: Much as the story of my life normally tells, I was called away early this morning on an pastoral issue and could not attend the retreat today. Thank yous go out to those who prayed for me! Fortunately I have the opportunity to go on another retreat shortly after the Christmas season in mid January, probably on one of my patron feast day.]
One last note you will find that certain religious links have been pulled off this blog. All religion and spirituality links with the exception of mine and organizations directly affiliated with me are on Our Lady Rejoice Ministries third edition of The Reign And Rook, which is now in blog format and will debut in limited form this Sunday. I hope you are enjoying the transitions.
