Dumpster Divas: A priceless quote found in the middle of a rubbish bin

"....Places in the universe must be very rare where we can walk naked away from our machines, breathe in the atmosphere, let the light of the nearest star fall on us, and find water to drink on the surface. While we can take technology with us to adapt to new places, it would be a good idea to take care of the one known place in the universe where we can do all these things......spaceship earth."

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS:

I previously have made editorial
comments that were republished on F6 regarding kilts/tartans or male skirts as an alternative to resolving the extreme sagging (below the buttocks) of pants issue with our teenagers.

And as a further note, if we did switch to a dress skirt for men, it would actually be more environmentally friendly. A basic male skirt wouldn't need to be washed after each wearing and you might actually get to wear it several times before having to wash it due to the lack of tight body/skin contact, thereby reducing the waste of water and the reduction of chemicals used to clean the fabrics. Of course by all means, don't pull a Brittney and forget to wear underwear, please!

I will post some modern male skirt links on the
F6 LINKS PAGE over the weekend.

Beer, brats, bodices on tap for festival
By Steve Penhollow

It is time again for Germanfest:

Our 27th annual Germanfest starts today, [...4ip...] “In Munich beer has been the preferred beverage since the Middle Ages,” says Ruth Reichmann, president of the Indiana German Heritage Society and adjunct assistant professor and director of the Max Kade German-American Center of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. “It was first brewed in the monasteries during those times when the drinking water was oftentimes a source of illness and even the plague. Beer and wine were safe sources of liquid. "However, wine was never very popular in the Alpine regions. It was not grown there. Grains and malt are readily available in the Alpine areas.”

Sibling Bavarian breweries Köstritzer and Bitburger will be well represented at Germanfest again. A new Köstritzer Night will happen at Club Soda, 235 E. Superior St., starting at 7 p.m. Monday. Germanfest marketing director Bob Anweiler says organizers needed to set aside a special night to celebrate “the black beer with the blonde soul.”

Of course, Germanfest isn’t just about beer, [...] A special bratwurst prepared by Heyerly’s Meat Market in South Whitley will be cooked up by Club Soda on Monday. It’s called Thüringer Rostbratwurst, and with an imposing name like that it may be the first sausage to come with steamship stacks. It won’t be available under the pavilion at Headwaters; the only place you can taste it is at Club Soda.

Less menacing brats will be multitudinously chomped at Headwaters, as will sauerkraut, German potato salad, kuchen (cake), pretzels and Landjäger, which Anweiler describes as “German beef jerky.” [...] “There are approximately 50 different kinds of potato salad which came from German-speaking areas to the U.S.,” Reichmann says. “Each area has its own specialty.”

There’ll be music and dancing at Germanfest, of course, and perhaps someone will start Schuhplattling, a dance inspired by the mating rituals of large grouses. [...] The chicken dance is based on duck movements! “It is actually called Ententanz,” Reichmann says. “Duck dance in Germany. If you observe the movements, you will notice that they do not fit the movements of chicken.”

You can avoid all poultry-prompted spats by participating in “Polka Like a Star” on Friday night – a reality-show-inspired competition that is also inspired by a Central European dance often danced by dancers wearing traditional central European garb. You may see men in lederhosen (leather short trousers) at Germanfest and women in dirndl (Alpine peasant dresses). [...] So we shall conclude with family activities: The wiener dog races and Kidsfest will happen Saturday at Headwaters.
See you all tomorrow, or at the rate we all get down with Polka in the Summit City, next week!!

Things To Do In Fort Wayne: Show your support of local theatre with The Libertarian Discount

Set in Rome City, Indiana an hour northwest of Fort Wayne on State Route 9, in 1929. A small ensemble of local actors present the love story of Max and Millie who are struggling to established a life together near Sylvan Lake amid the economics of the roaring twenties into the hardships of the Great Depression. Hope and despair, G-men and gangsters, radio, talkies and print all collide to unfold this presentation as a 1920’s film while also telling the concurrent story of Al Capone as it interweaves the societal fabric of early twentieth century Mid West America.

The Firehouse Theater, operated by former LPAC officer Jeannette Jaquish, is located 1245 East State Boulevard (just east of Crescent Avenue aka Stellhorn Road/State Road 37) is presenting the newest play Al Capone and Me by local award winning author and educator, Ruth Tyndall Baker, with four remaining shows on the 31st of May and the 1st, 7th, and 8th of June.

The shows on the 1st and 8th start at 3p.m.; while the shows on the 31st and 7th start at 7p.m., with the option of dinner (for an extra fee) an hour before the show. Please RSVP if you wish to attend the dinner @ 260-750-9013. Ticket prices for this show are normally $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 8-13 (children younger than eight are asked not to attend) but with the new Liberty Discount not only will you get $3 off normal adult ticket prices and $2 dollars of a child's ticket but an additional donation will be made to the Libertarian Party of Allen County.

This is going to be interesting & Things to do in Fort Wayne

Well starting out, today was suppose to be a lazy day; originally I had four posts planned for today: two updates on national GLBTIQAS (Gay and Lesbian etc.) issues, and this one, followed by a general commentary post. That was at half past ten, in the morning; it is now eleven fifteen at night! I have three posts still sitting in draft mode, and I am just now sitting down to type this one; it has been a long, hard, day. Folks, that is what makes life in Fort Wayne great. Short of F6 sounding like a montage of slogans, Fort Wayne really does provide "room for dreams".

Being able to help certain people in query secure their dreams for the future and resolve the nightmares of the past bad choices and decisions by others, makes my vocation while limited in recompense or reward, satisfying and worth every moment of personal sacrifice of a few lazy moments of writing and much needed rest. Additionally, any time I start to question or fret over whether or not to continue my ministry here in any capacity or just pack up and move to Wyoming (get it, " WHY? OH ME!", sorry - bad pun), God always seems to send me into situations that no one else is either willing to deal with or knows how to. That is kind of cool and it is also nice to know that I am right where He wants me to be.

There are several major events coming up as well as new additions or offerings from long standing community organizations and you can get a quick picture by viewing
F6's Links Page and scroll to the bottom for our Google Calendar. The following are just three that I would like to highlight and also correct previous misinformation posted on this forum, if you don't mind.

About a month and a half ago, I received an unverified email regarding ARCH's Downtown Treasures Tours that happen April through October at 1p.m. on the first Friday of the month starting @ The Convention and Visitors Bureau on Calhoun Street and runs a course across the south end of Downtown's historic attractions.

I put it up on the calendar, with a private note to review it later. A couple days ago, I finally spoke with Angie Quinn, who leads the tours and also writes @ Revolutionary Potluck League, randomly. I was able to verify with her some details and clarify certain others. During our conversation she also filled me in about a new set of tours that will happen on Saturdays from the 7th of June through 27th of September and start at ten in the morning leaving from the Barr Street Market and run north and again west covering those attractions.

Each tour takes approximately ninety minutes and covers one mile of travel. The Downtown Treasures Tours are free; although ARCH does ask that you call ahead to notify them how many people will be attending, so they have enough guides to lead you around our historic and yet modern City.
UPDATE: TOURS ARE NOW $5 FOR ADULTS!

Katie @ Fort Wayne Yoga sent me a message, clarifying that while Dodge Ball @ Foster Park starts at 5 p.m. on Sundays apparently the Yoga class doesn't start until 6:30 p.m. For more information, follow the links in the previous sentence, and again my apologies for the misinformation.

One of the strongest assets and institutions in Fort Wayne is it's art community. Please take time to check out Allen County Public Library's Fort Wayne Area Artists blog. With the hundreds of working and innovative artists, Fort Wayne is the hometown choice of several nationally and internationally recognized artists.

Comcast in conjunction with Arts United and several other companies are presenting THE ART CRAWL FESTIVAL on Friday the 30th of May from 5-9 p.m. It all starts off @ the intersection of Wayne and Calhoun and stretches all the way east and west from Harrison to Clinton Streets and south to Washington Boulevard. The event is free to browse and by purchasing the works, you can support our local artists and help them flourish in their craft. In addition, with all the great local art and age appropriate venues, the Downtown Improvement District has other features for this festival listed on their website; so I will refer any further event promotions to that page.

F6
encourages you to bring your family & friends out celebrating The Arts in The Summit City!

And who says there is nothing to do in Fort Wayne?

FAQ's: These were a few a my favorite things

In this latest installment of F6 we continue with the list from Harry Reineke IV @ Ramblin Rosko. Some of the most awesome things to do along the three rivers, Harry, are completely illegal. Here are two examples:

1. Sometime after midnight me and some of my best friends will periodically go to to Reservoir Park on Creighton Avenue between Clinton Street and Lafayette Boulevard, after a good rain or snow storm and go sliding down either the east or southwestern face of the upper hill in our underwear. Normally someone snags themselves on a tree the second time down and so slowly but surely we'll probably end up naked as the game progresses. The goal is to not fall down completely if you do you loose and the punishment for loosing involves either a few smacks across the ass or purchase of the next case of beer the second one that looses buys dinner along with the third (usually Arbys since Powers is no longer open 3rd shift). The fourth is the pre-elected guinea pig or bait for any future pranks we decide to pull in the next forty eight hours. Yes we know it is illegal but damn it is fun. Between the hours of midnight and three hundred hours everyone else is either home asleep, working, or drinking at a local establishment; so aside from, an occasional yelps from: an almost castration, a few good smacks, and a tumble down the hill backwards, no one can actually see us frolicking around naked. We aren't disturbing the peace either since the hill and trees muffle the sounds of our little tangos.

If you ever heard me or any alternative Christian and pagan in the City affectionately refer this hill as God's Rock now you know what we are talking about. This is also a really cool place to go and meditate or just hide away from the world for a while. I would make one recommendation that you never go to La Rez alone, at least take someone with you as a look out. For a pointe of reference, F6's Title Banner Picture is taken from the northwest face of God's Rock.

2. Sledding or inner tube down the BMX hill at Franke Park (still clothed by the way) at like one in the morning at one in the morning. With the exception of that one hump in the very middle which will cause someone to loose the use of an appendage for at least two weeks. Grabbing a cauldron of hot chocolate and roasting marshmallows with a lighter finish out the event and make for an awesome way to meet new totally random friends in the course of just a few hours.

I think that is one of the truly beautiful things about our city,
"We are truly a 'Crossroad Community' and it shows in the everyday bounty; which rather unfortunately, goes overlooked by most when the daily grind takes over their lives. Take a moment to explore the hidden kaleidescope that is here in the midsts of this historic community. Take a bike ride along the River Greenway but don't feed the geese they do bite back. And while you are exploring the Summit City, take time to introduce yourself to a stranger and inherit 40 friends in five days flat."

3. We have some wonderful trails within the City and surrounding country areas although if you take the time to go on any length or duration of a trip you will want to make sure that you have a full service of food and water on board with you as well as a roll of toilet paper, first aide kit, and communication device of some form. Our parks also don't have full access toilets either so be prepared to squat at random places to relieve any byproducts that have built up. In addition study your maps (pg 2 pdf document) carefully because it is easy to get lost on and off the trail.

I spent a better portion of my weekends during my teenage years on the Greenway just exploring nature and the hidden beauty outside of everyones typical vantage pointe. After you get used to the River Greenway a little bit and I can find a seat that will accommodate my over sized balls I will show you some of the secret passages built in across the City. You would be surprised to find out how intertwined the City really is and most residents don't know it.

4. And while my fourth favorite thing to do around the Old Fort is not illegal it might be considered blasphemous by others. I developed this last one on my own while visiting my grandparent's grave. It is called "how far can you get around" and what you do is as you enter Lindenwood Cemetery you throw your car into high idle, lock in your cruise control at random speeds (no higher then forty mph) and then put your car in low gear. Then as you traverse the hills and valleys of the outer rim road of Lindenwood you see how far around you can go without loosing momentum. So far I have made it half way around at thirty two miles per hour and a quarter of the way around at twenty eight mph.

Photo of a map of Lindenwood Cemetery was ganked from the Northeast Indiana AIDS Memorial. While I do support the Memorial I do not support the CATT program which is where some of the money goes when purchasing a brick; so therefore can not suggest that anyone purchase a paving brick at this time, until Tula (aka Charles Miller) gets her fat little fingers out of the cookie jar and the pocket book of the Memorial- or the UTSCC for that matter.

[EDITOR'S NOTE: Links not working; Image not showing]
[Apparently due to
F6's investigative work, before this post was made available to the public; enough questions were asked in the right direction/ towards the right people, that some heads decided to roll and websites were taken down, all because a cute little bear decided to paw at a few loose branches, oh well. Here ==> is a thumbnail of the picture you should have been able to see if F6 hadn't sent certain organizations scrambling for answers or cover, which ever applies.]

5. The fact that we are such a diverse City is one thing that makes us great. At one pointe you will still have the stereotypes and misnomers but in the same breath when it comes down to the nuts and bolts of the matter at hand whether Gay or Straight, Pagan, Jew, Christian or Muslim or any other random personal belief structure held by individuals, the betterment of the greater community usually shows forth before any individuals' bias in a given situation. Even when the occasional hate monger shows its ugly presence there are usually enough people to back up the one being attacked or at least available to assist afterwards, going beyond general Hoosier Hospitality, that is something ingrained upon us from childhood, to look out for each other and our occasional moments of stupidity.

Unfortunately as the City grows and we modernize we are starting to loose our sense of individuals making up a community rather than organizations as evidenced by the gang of little drunk homophobic twerps that attempted to shove a three hundred and forty pound bear (me) down last night after I broke up a confrontation they were having with another party by involving Fort Wayne's finest. Let's just say the picked the wrong priest to piss off, thankfully for them, I am a pacifist.

Please feel free to caption the picture in the comments.

Only in Fort Wayne do you see this or a cop trying to jimmy his own squad car open while it is sitting at the bus station. And people complain about living in Fort Wayne, come on there is humor all around you in this City, take time to stop and laugh a while it will all be better in the morning! Oh and by the way people, Happy Halloween!

There is more to come out (no pun intended) tomorrow, stay tuned, muwahahah!

Car plunges into 8-foot Calhoun hole

By Rebecca S. Green The Journal Gazette

A 61-year-old Fort Wayne man found himself the unwanted center of a lot of attention late Wednesday morning after he drove his car into an 8-foot hole on a closed downtown street.

Charles Farrell turned from Washington Boulevard onto Calhoun Street, thinking the road had been reopened. Instead he drove his silver Chevrolet Lumina into the hole right as the downtown lunch crowds hit the streets.

With cell phone cameras snapping photos and passersby debating how Farrell’s car would be salvaged, Farrell stood impassively on the curb in front of the Hilton Hotel as crews worked to pull the car out of the hole.

Safety officials from Brooks Construction, which is doing excavation work on the street, said they were taking statements from witnesses about how Farrell was able to turn onto the street. Barrels are placed at the Calhoun Street and Washington Boulevard intersection, but they are spaced wide enough apart to allow construction equipment to pass in between, officials said.

The car was eventually removed from the hole and a high-voltage electrical line running under the street was undamaged, officials said.

Farrell was also uninjured, with the exception of a small cut on his left hand.
